CORPORATE COACHING: A ROADMAP FOR RESULTS
“Karen is so professional and it is obvious her approach and well structured process, as well as her help to document and follow up was key to my progress and my reflections. I feel so much better and more empowered than before we started.“
~ Mia Ahlström, Executive VP IKEA United States
I’ve been in your shoes. During my 35 years in Corporate America I managed P&Ls, lead teams and ran projects. I promoted ideas and had winners along with losers. I landed on top during corporate mergers and landed out of a job through company reorganizations. And I discovered the best way forward was almost always the result of stepping back.
Executive coaching is not a panacea for success or an ironclad prevention of failure. Rather it’s a great way to help you uncover those many insights waiting to be born. Rather than staying stuck in a problem, results-based coaching helps you move toward a solution.
What’s involved?
While flexibility exists, a typical coaching engagement can be anywhere from three to six months.
An initial interview with the person being coached, helps to clarify what coaching is and is not, discuss potential outcomes the individual is interested in achieving, and review the coaching process. At the conclusion, a decision is made whether or not to move forward.
If the decision is made to proceed, the following meetings take place:
- An in-depth interview with the individual setting up expectations and exploring initial areas for goal development.
- Up to 12 in-person interviews with a combination of the individual’s manager, direct reports, and peers. This 360 degree view is summarized and shared with the individual in a supportive and positive way reviewing what appears to be their greatest strengths along with areas for development.
- Weekly, one-hour coaching sessions to establish inspiring stretch goals with measurable outcomes, develop a plan with strategies and actions, and execute while using a continuous process of insight generation, learning and adjustment.
- A final summary and celebration of accomplishments along with suggested next steps.
